Wix is a great way to get a website online quickly. But as an online store grows, many owners want more ecommerce features, more sales channels and a platform built for selling first. That’s why Wix to Shopify is one of the most common store migrations.
Before you switch, it helps to know exactly what moves easily, what needs extra work, and how to keep your Google traffic.
What moves from Wix to Shopify
| Data | With Shopify’s free import tool | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Products, prices, images, SKUs | Yes | Check variants after import |
| Inventory | Yes | Confirm stock levels before launch |
| Customers | Yes | Passwords can’t be moved |
| Order history | No | Needs a third-party migration tool |
| Product reviews | No | Usually re-imported through a reviews app, or moved manually |
| Pages and blog posts | No | Copied over and reformatted |
| Collections and menus | No | Rebuilt in Shopify |
| SEO titles and descriptions | No | Added during the rebuild |
Wix to Shopify limits to know about
- Product options: Shopify products support up to 3 options (like size, color and material). Wix products with more options need restructuring.
- Prices by location from Wix aren’t carried over the same way and need to be set up again with Shopify’s own tools.
- Order history isn’t included in Shopify’s free import for Wix, so you need a paid migration tool if you want it.
- Design doesn’t transfer. Your Wix design is rebuilt on a Shopify theme. This is often a chance to improve speed and mobile layout.
How URLs change, and how to keep your SEO
Your Wix product and page URLs won’t match Shopify’s structure. For example, Shopify product pages live under /products/, collections under /collections/, pages under /pages/ and blog posts under /blogs/.
To keep your rankings, map each old Wix URL to its new Shopify page and add a 301 redirect. Shopify lets you import redirects in bulk from a CSV file. Start with the pages that get the most traffic in Google Search Console.
Step-by-step: moving from Wix to Shopify
- Audit your Wix store: list products, pages, blog posts and your top URLs from Search Console.
- Create your Shopify store and keep it password-protected while you build.
- Import products and customers with Shopify’s Store Migration app or a CSV file.
- Move order history with a third-party tool if you need it.
- Rebuild collections, menus, pages and blog posts.
- Choose and set up a theme that fits your brand.
- Set up shipping, taxes, payments and apps.
- Add SEO titles, descriptions and your 301 redirects.
- Place test orders and check everything on mobile.
- Connect your domain and submit your new sitemap to Google.
